Kay jewelers is NOTORIOUSLY bad. You will get ripped off. Google the Buzzfeed article.
I had an absolutely miserable experience at Kay Jewelers. I decided to purchase just the setting from Kay (I bought the diamond separately for reasons mentioned below.) Well, in order to still have a warranty, I had Kay's team mount the diamond to my setting. The work I received back was an embarrassment to the profession of jewelry. The diamond was visibly crooked to the naked eye and it was also the wrong kind of mount for the setting I had purchased. Due to their dishonestly and lack of attention to quality, I decided to return everything i had purchased to Kay. However, they still refuse to refund the $160 for their compete joke of a "service" in mounting my diamond crooked. Their manager told me to their face he would do everything he could to get this $160 refunded, but then when I called customer service, the Kay team said that this manager disagreed that the work was faulty.
I actually wanted to reply to the posts here by other customers of the store. I am not related in any way to Kay Jewelers. I have only visited the store at this location once. Their customer service seemed okay. I haven't bought anything there, so I don't know how good or bad they are with time or detail orientation. But just reading some of the the absurd comments people write: Why would anyone, anyone sells a 14 k ring for the price of a10 k ring? ha..
Horrible service at this store. At 9pm today some guy didn't want to look up an order without a receipt. Worst service ever
In addition to my comments above, Kay Jewelers is terrible value. Kay is massively overpriced. I got a vastly superior stone an an upgrade to platinum for a fraction of the cost of Kay at Mervis Diamonds in Tysons. Never ever buy an actual diamond from Mervis unless you are willing to pay double the price for half the diamond.
There really isn't any reason to buy your jewelry, especially your engagement ring, at Kay.
So all in all, never shop at Kay, especially this Pentagon City location. While there are some kind employees at this location who do try their best (for example Lucy at this location), Kay is a complete ripoff that is banking that their customers will shop there based on their intense marketing scheme. Instead, go to your local jewelry shops like Mervis.
Also their warranties are filled with fine print that essentially make them essentially worthless. You pay hundreds of dollars for a warranty that requires you to bring your ring in every six months for inspection. Who does that? Mervis gave me a free lifetime warranty with no required inspections.
Had my second engagement ring from there and when my x and I broke up they allowed me to exchange it by upgrading an extra 50 percent of the original value and get a replacement pieces, quite worth the investments
