The Ballston Common Mall is a great mall for shopping. When I was a little kid my favorite store to go to was The Disney Store.
Went for the movies. They are doing a lot of construction so it's really chilly inside. Take a sweater!
The picture I posted (of the crumbled building, which used to be much of Balston Commons) is a pretty neat shot, I think, of what the mall generally is right now. I've always found shopping malls rather depressing--and, hey, even before this one was being torn down, it was, seriously, the *most* depressing mall I can recall visiting. But, I hope that after the renovations, it'll be pretty cool. I hear that it's being made into more of a shopping district, in which all the stores (or almost all?) can be entered from the sidewalk. That'll be much better. We'll see what kinds of businesses are attracted, though. Supposed to be completed in 2018---but it seems there's a *whole* lot of work to be done before even the end of 2018.
Parking was a nightmare since the parking ticket machine ate my credit card. Had to wait 30 minutes for someone to come and get it out. There are no bathrooms in the mall except on the 2nd floor of Macy’s, which has the most unfriendly cashiers I have ever met. How can you have a movie theater with no bathrooms?
I have been coming to this mall off and on since 1994. I do not live in Arlington-we are here for work. Not too much has changed. In 2010, I started going to Ballston with our children. It is a nice place to walk to from our hotel. The mall is FINALLY being renovated and has been closed for some time. It is supposed to be finished and open again by the time we visit next June. I am excited to see the changes.
